Throughout term 3, Year R have been exploring Fairytales; within art, the children have been learning how to join materials and create collages.
We began the project by looking at and discussing the paintings and collages by Henri Matisse. Each class then made their own collaged fairytale scene on a large roll of paper. The children chose what they would like to make for the scene; they cut coloured paper (freestyle with no drawing) and then planned their collage on the floor before gluing their work to the roll of paper. The children made their own glue paste using water and flour.
The next step (starting this week) is to create the characters for the fairytale scene. The project: allows the children to practise their cutting, making and joining skills; helps to develop the children’s fine-motor skills; encourages imagination, creativity and independent working.
