Bridge & Patrixbourne CEP School is committed to providing a safe and nurturing environment for all our pupils. During Allergy Awareness Week, we have been focusing on educating our pupils about the importance of understanding and managing food and other allergies

Exploring Allergies Across the Year Groups

Year 1
Our Year 1 pupils have been learning about the 14 main food allergens and the signs of an allergic reaction. They discussed the importance of handwashing and not sharing food to keep their friends with allergies safe. The children enjoyed sorting different allergens into food and non-food groups.

Year 2
In Year 2, the children watched a video about a boy named Max who had an allergic reaction and had to go to the hospital. They learned about the physical symptoms of an allergic reaction and how to get help quickly. The pupils also discussed being a nut-free school and the word "anaphylaxis".

Year 3
Our Year 3 pupils demonstrated excellent knowledge about allergies. They talked about the difference between allergies and intolerances, and shared if they had any allergies themselves. The children impressed us with their understanding of how to keep each other safe, such as not sharing food.

Year 5
In Year 5, the pupils explored the severity of allergies and the impact they can have on someone's life. They watched a video about a child living with an allergy and discussed ways their peers can provide support. The children then created posters to raise awareness about different allergies and how to help those affected.

Year 6
Our Year 6 pupils learned about the importance of recognising allergy symptoms and taking precautions to prevent cross-contamination, especially in the context of a school cake sale. They practised identifying the signs of an allergic reaction and learned how to respond quickly and effectively to help someone in need.
