At Bridge & Patrixbourne CEP School, we believe that regular attendance and punctuality are vital foundations for every pupil’s success and wellbeing. As a maintained primary school rooted in Christian values, we are committed to nurturing a supportive community where every pupil can flourish. Our approach to attendance reflects our vision inspired by Jesus’ words: “I am the vine, you are the branches... you will bear much fruit” (John 15:5). Just as branches need to stay connected to the vine to grow strong, consistent attendance helps pupils grow academically, socially, and spiritually within our caring school family.

School Opening and Closing Times

  • Gates open: 8.40am
  • Lessons start: 8.50am
  • School day ends: 3.15pm

If your child has not been collected by 3.25pm, they will be safely taken to the school office, and you will be contacted promptly.

Attendance Expectations

We expect all pupils to attend school regularly during term time to maximise their learning and development. Attendance is essential for building resilience, creativity, and excellence—key aspects of our school vision.

Absences are only authorised when:

  • Your child is too ill to attend school
  • The school has given prior authorisation for absence

If your child is unwell, please inform the school office as soon as possible by calling 01227 830276.

Requesting Absence

Any requests to take your child out of school during term time must be made in writing to Mr Tibbles, our Headteacher. Permission is granted only in exceptional circumstances, in line with Department for Education regulations.

Please note:

  • Family holidays during term time are not authorised.
  • Unauthorised absences may lead to Penalty Notices.
  • Exceptional circumstances may include events such as funerals or weddings and must be clearly explained in advance.
  • Routine medical and dental appointments should be arranged outside school hours whenever possible.

Punctuality Matters

Our school day begins promptly at 8.50am with registration. Arriving on time ensures your child is settled and ready to learn from the start of the day. Late arrivals disrupt both your child’s learning and that of their classmates.

Supporting Consistent Attendance

We aim for 98% attendance across the school. If your child’s attendance falls below 90%, we will contact you to offer support and discuss any barriers to regular attendance. Research shows that missing one day every two weeks can significantly affect a pupil’s progress.

Should attendance not improve, we may involve the Kent County Council School’s Liaison Officer to provide additional support and guidance.

How Our Values Support Attendance

Our values of Service, Forgiveness, Trust, Generosity, and Compassion underpin our approach to attendance and punctuality. We work in partnership with families to support pupils in overcoming challenges and encourage a positive attitude towards school life. We trust that parents and carers will work with us to ensure pupils are present and punctual, enabling everyone to thrive within our Christian community.

Parental Support

  • Please ensure your child arrives on time every day.
  • Contact the school office promptly if your child is unwell.
  • Submit any absence requests in writing to the Headteacher well in advance.
  • Support your child’s learning by reinforcing the importance of regular attendance.

Regular attendance and punctuality are essential for your child’s success and wellbeing at Bridge & Patrixbourne CEP School. By working together with our community, guided by our Christian values and vision, we can help every pupil flourish and grow as the best version of themselves. Thank you for your partnership in making attendance a priority.
