On Tuesday 8th July, eight enthusiastic pupils from Year 5 and Year 6—two girls and six boys—represented Bridge & Patrixbourne at the Cricket County Tournament held at Ashford School. Competing alongside eleven other schools, our pupils demonstrated remarkable team spirit, resilience, and determination, qualities deeply rooted in our school values of trust, service, and generosity.
Although they faced a narrow defeat in their first match against Ide Hill, losing 43 to 69, the team rallied with renewed determination in their second match against Upton Primary, securing a convincing win of 101 to 41. Their momentum continued as they triumphed over More Park with a score of 99 to 46, followed by another strong victory against St Georges, winning 91 to 31. The fifth match against Amherst was tense, with a win meaning a chance to play for third place.
Rising to the challenge, our pupils delivered a commanding performance, winning 100 to 51. In the final play-off for third and fourth place against Upton Juniors, the team’s resilience shone through once more as they secured a 58 to 35 victory.
Overall, Bridge & Patrixbourne CEP School proudly claimed third place, becoming the third-best cricket team in the South East county.
This fantastic achievement is more than just a sporting success; it reflects our pupils’ ability to work together, support each other, and strive for excellence demonstrates the flourishing community we aim to build. Throughout the tournament, they exemplified the values we nurture every day. Their commitment and dedication to the team showed a spirit of service, while the trust they placed in one another’s skills and support was evident in their teamwork. Generosity and compassion were clear as they encouraged teammates and showed respect to their opponents. Even when faced with setbacks, such as the initial loss, they displayed forgiveness by learning and moving forward with determination.
The success of our Year 5 and 6 cricket team at the county tournament is a proud moment for Bridge & Patrixbourne CEP School. It embodies the spirit of resilience, creativity, and community that we foster through our Christian ethos. We congratulate all the pupils for their outstanding effort and look forward to seeing how they continue to grow and bear fruit in all areas of school life.
