Look what we have been up to in Forest School this term:
Reception children went on a Bear hunt around the area- we found tall grass, mud, a river, forest, some fur, footprints and a cave with a bear! They learned about den building rules and enjoyed makes homes for the bears. On our hunt we also found a protected female stag beetle under a log. Children discovered the cable reels for loose parts play and how to make a fun see-saw. Some of the fruit and vegetable was ready to be picked and Year R learned about which plants are edible.
As it was very hot, I had frozen some water into ice and children had to use pipettes to free the sticks and pine cones.
Our new tool was the peeler . I brought in some carrots for the children to peel and then enjoy.
We read the book ' The mole who knew it was none of its business' and learned about animal poo being one way of tracking animals in the area. We found some real poo which we thought might have been from a bird and from a hedgehog possibly.
Teddy found a wasps nest that has been created in the mound - they had used an abandoned badger/fox hole as their perfect nesting place. Some children chose to make woodland animals from clay after playing an animal guessing game, whereas others created boats to float on water. Some took time to relax in the hammock, chat with their friends or explore their own interests. We talked about tree climbing rules and also got the water hose out to cool us down - what fun memories.
Have a fabulous summer holiday and enjoy nature.
