This Term Year 1 thought a little bit about which animals live in the Forest School area and if they are mammals or not.
As Year 1 is so grown up, we got the special Kelly Kettle out to boil water on a cold day. We talked about the fire triangle, how to stay safe and the children helped to build a small fire. Warm squash helped us to stay warm.
Some new toy birds joined our collection (they are from the RSPB if anyone is interested), we read the book 'owl babies and acted it out. Sophia made a great bird's nest, they were creating lots of bird feeders and Bailey explored the Merlin App, which tells you which birds are singing. Willow class stayed safe indoors for one session because of one of the many storms this winter. However, we did go for a little bird watching walk and children learned about birds indoors, making lego nests, binoculars and bird feeders. Kezi created a great poster with bird facts. Our last session was all about worms. We read a new book 'The diary of a worm', played a worm game, found worms and got stuck in a muddy digging pit. Ava went on a mushroom hunt, I had some helpers to clear the polytunnel and Elena created a wobble board with a pallet that she spent a long time exploring and other children joined her.
Have a great half term. Mrs Pearman
