Last term, Year 5 enjoyed looking at Twisted Fairy tales. The children looked at a traditional tale and then wrote their own tale adding their own twist to it. The focus of learning was on building suspense and fear through the use of figurative language and leaving the story with a moral for the audience.  They then went on to interview the Villain in their story asking them why they were there and are they really as bad as their reputation says. 

They have thoroughly enjoyed it and have written some amazing TWISTED tales!

 

The learning was cross-curricular with Art. The children’s mixed-media artwork was used to inspire their creative writing and was displayed on a ‘working wall’. They first created a scene and as a year group we discussed how to create atmosphere through the use of light, shadow and colour. The children went on to create beasts (focussing on hair and texture) and protagonists. At the end of the project, Year 5 designed a book front cover for their fairy tale.
