Welcome to the woods Year 1. Your first trip.
Luckily we missed the very stormy weather last week and went during a calmer time to Covert Woods to explore. Some tree surgeons were at work at our usual spot but we found a different area to explore. This session was all about using the senses.
We listened to the noises around us, the birds, leaves, twigs and planes. The Year 1 children were very interested in finding special natural items on the forest floor and they shared them with their peers, using their senses. Then came our blindfold game where the children had to trust each other, they had to lead their partner to a tree, feeling the tree and then trying to identify it later on. I was very impressed with how careful the children managed to be. We read the classic story 'Where the wild things are' and the children had time to build dens, boats, foot prints and beds for the Wild Things!
What a great time - we will be back!
