UCA and Bridge school collaboration – ‘Dream Dwellings’ architecture project
Fourteen pupils from year 4, 5 and 6 have had a wonderful opportunity to collaborate with a group of MA Architecture students from UCA (University for the Creative Arts) in Canterbury.
Before the Easter holidays, the Bridge pupils involved each drew their own ‘dream dwelling’. These drawings were the starting point and inspiration for the MA students fantastic digital illustrations and final project.
The children were very privileged to be invited to the UCA last week and take part in a workshop to make their ‘dream dwellings’ in 3D using card (as the MA students do themselves within their own projects). As part of the visit, we were also taken on a tour of the UCA, giving the children an idea of what it is like to study art at degree level and beyond - something I hope some of my students will aspire to do in the future!
The UCA were really impressed with our pupils work and attitude. All the children worked hard and were fully engaged throughout the afternoon. Amelie even managed a short piano performance that amazed the UCA students and tutors. What a wonderful afternoon!
We will be displaying all of the work from the project in our school office/welcome reception area this week and will be sending out invitations very soon.
A massive thank you to the UCA students involved: Celine, Chinmay, Faujia and Beihan. Thank you to Mrs Pearson who drove us in the mini bus.
