The Year 1 topic this term is ‘mini beasts’ and within their science lessons they are learning about the anatomy of insects. Within their art, pupils have been studying and drawing my collection of insects set in resin - these are fascinating objects.
In Year R and Year 1, class teachers include regular physical tasks within their lessons to improve the children’s fine motor skills. These tasks include art skills such as drawing, painting, manipulating materials and using tools such as scissors.
Drawing plays a massive role in children’s’ development. It helps them to develop their hand-eye co-ordination; communicate and express feelings and ideas; think creatively and also observe, analyse, and record the world around them.
