We were joined by Andrew, the head chef at The Pig, this morning for our first session of the year as part of their 'Adopt a School' programme. The session began by talking about the importance of food hygiene and why we need to eat in order to stay healthy. We then looked at different food groups and how they help our body, for example: vitamins, fibre and iron. Andrew then taught the children about the importance of balance and moderation within their diet. The children were then given a platter of foods that all stimulated a different one of the five tastes: sweet, sour, bitter, salty and umami. There were some humorous faces as the children tried to work out which part of their tongue was picking up the different tastes! The children thoroughly enjoyed the session and are looking forward to the future sessions as part of the programme!
