Welcome to the Forest School summer term.
Year 3 children have been very busy exploring and learning new skills:
We set up some experiments linked to their science topics - exploring how plants suck up water - we listened to trees with a stethoscope and waited for two white ox-eye daisies to turn blue and green because of the coloured water. They also used seeds and tried to grow them under different conditions (no light / no water / no soil/ or all of the conditions needed).
Betsy, Chris and Holly found lots of potatoes when they were emptying the compost that had grown there accidentally.
The mud kitchen and outdoor restaurants were very popular this term.
Balancing on the slack line
Using secateurs and tent pegs to make Elder bracelets and other craft.
They passed the squeeze in their hands - sitting quietly and being in the moment.
Seeing a stag beetle !!
Using knives, peelers, secateurs and palm drills to make spinning tops - Michael particularly persevered.
Making bird lard feeders and looking after the animals in our area.
Playing the bat game and remembering how they communicate.
Building a fire, knowing how to stay safe and cooking popcorn. Picking courgettes and Peppers from the polytunnel and frying them over the fire. Enjoying a cucumber from the polytunnel.
Making a mud pit and loving getting messy.
Learning about picking wild fruit and blackberries. We had so much fun - I am very much looking forward to next year!
Enjoy your summer break - if you see any special animals / plants or have any special outdoor experiences, feel free to send some photos/ notes or drawing in.
