Art workshop with Pilgrims Way

Mrs Tomsett and I were very pleased to be invited to Pilgrims Way to run an Art workshop this week. We took a small group of talented Year 5 Bridge pupils, working towards an Arts Award, to collaborate with equally talented pupils from Pilgrims Way Primary School.

The overarching theme of our project is ‘Twisted Fairy Tales’ and together we created a dark paper forest inspired by Hansel and Gretel (a very twisted fairy tale indeed). The gnarly tree trucks and branches were drawn on long rolls of paper using charcoal, white chalk and rubbers to create dark and light tones. Pupils took inspiration from the illustrator Arthur Rackham and drew scary faces within the trees; leaves were then made from coloured paper. It was lovely to see the children all work together so well.

To horrify other pupils at the school, our forest was hung in the Pilgrims Way music room! We all had a really fun (and slightly scary) afternoon and we hope to work with Pilgrims Way again soon.
