The first session was all about hedgehogs - we played a hedgehog game, learned some facts, created hedgehogs with leaves, made mud hedgehog and built houses for the animals.
The song, if you want to sing it at home, goes like this (to the tune of 'I'm a little teacup'):
I'm a little hedgehog, brown and small
very prickly and not that tall
when I'm feeling frightened, away I crawl
and curl up into a ball.
I'm a little hedgehog build my nest,
when it's Autumn leaves are best.
When you build a bonfire have you guessed,
check inside I'm having a rest.
We made another fire and learned about why popcorn kernels pop over the fire (the water inside expands). Lots of children used the fire strikers (or dragon sneeze)
We played a game where children learned about nocturnal and diurnal animals and some chose to create Christmas decorations. Winter weather allowed children to create a mud pit which was great fun.
Have a lovely Christmas break,
See you in January for more Forest School fun.
