Within our Reception Art and Music project this week, the children responded to four contrasting pieces of music.
To begin the lesson, pupils moved their bodies and danced to all four pieces of music. As a class, we discussed how the music made them feel and how their movements changed to reflect this. We then moved to a large square of paper and gave the children felt tip pens. Whist listening to the music a second time, they responded to it and allowed their arms to travel around the paper creating expressive lines. We swapped to chunky graphite sticks halfway through – perfect for angry squiggles!
Each class created a large group artwork covered with sad, happy, angry and calm lines and images. The project allowed the children to express themselves freely on a large scale and helped develop their motor skills.
