At the beginning of Term 2, Year 4 children were challenged to make a mask as part of an exhibition for the ’V & A Local’ at Bridge School. The children studied the ancient Maya people and culture as part of their history topic. They learnt that the Maya had different types of masks for different occasions such as: celebratory masks, warrior masks and death masks. The children were asked to create a mask either for a celebration, festival or for courage and bravery. They have worked so hard on researching, testing skills and learning new techniques, designing, making and evaluating their masks. All of this effort has resulted in some truly fabulous, well thought out and creative work, which we are sure that everyone will enjoy. The exhibition has now been curated and is displayed in the New Building Corridor. Excitingly, we have a preview for you here, on our blog.
