This term we are focusing on Design Technology. Year one regularly practises motor skills within lessons with Mrs Cork and Mrs Andrews; in preparation for this project they have been practising using scissors and a hole punch.
Within their DT lessons they are getting into the Christmas spirit by designing moving Christmas cards to give to their families. At the start of this term, pupils worked independently to explore simple mechanisms - levers and sliders - that can make their cards move! A lever pivots around a split pin and can move a part of their card left and right. A slider allows a part of their card to travel up and down. See some photos below:
This week and next, pupils are designing the front of their Christmas card. They have been drawing a nativity scene using inspiration from Christmas cards and pictures. Pupils have been considering the composition, the characters that will be included on their card and which part of their design will move. They have also been thinking about which colours to use and have been practising colouring with pencils. In two weeks, the pupils will be making and evaluating their cards.
