Year one pupils have been making their own autumnal leaves from their mark-making work produced earlier in the term. During their country walk, Year 1 pupils collected large autumnal leaves. I photocopied some to become leaf stencils - a choice of leaves appropriate for each child’s cutting ability.
The children considered which part of their mark-making work they wanted to cut from; they held the stencil in place with one hand and drew around it with a pencil. The children cut the leaf shape out and attached wire to the back with Sellotape. The leaves have been displayed outside the year one classrooms.
The tasks within this project help to strengthens the children’s hand muscles; develop their fine motor skills; improve eye-hand coordination; gives an opportunity for the children to focus on a task and to be creative.
