Year 4 have had an action packed term in Forest School. We started off with whittling, remembering how to use tools safely. William created a butter knife, Ziva a mushroom and we had lots of creative designs. Avid made a bow and arrow, as did Michael later on in the weeks, improving on his first design. We sang songs, led each other blindfolded over an obstacle course created mud kitchen restaurants.
We cut the willow dome down a little and with the rods, we planted a new tunnel and used the willow for craft. Elara, Reggie, Ella, Farren and Akira managed to make an incredible platter. They had lots of ideas of how to use the willow, as it is so flexible.
Children feel confident to ask for tools and items now that they want to use now for their own projects.
the following week was fire and cooking time. We had fire monitors and cooked apple slices with cinnamon and sugar, watching how the sugar turned to caramel.
We were listening to the birds and wondering what they were saying... Some children planted seeds (Reggie was a master gardener) and some were hammering nails into log slices, using their creativity.
We were thinking about how to stay safe and make responsible decisions in Forest School. We also read a story about the 'Wood Wide Web' learning about how trees talk to each other with the help of fungi and microbes. They made Easter decorations with log slices and built dens and dog shelters. Please see the separate woodland blog for our trip out to Covert woods.
Have a great Easter break
