This term Year 3 have been exploring the Stone Age in Forest School.

The children have been busy making tools with sticks, flint and string  - improving their dexterity. They made natural paint from charcoal and created their own natural brushes. Some explored the natural way of building walls/houses using the wattle and daub method. Aaha and Ridhima did a fantastic job.  Arthur, Indiana and Carson created a mud slide on the mound and having a really fun time sliding down. We found an old bird's nest in our bird box which still had one unhatched blue tit egg in it.

The children helped to build a fire, they were grinding down oats into flour, mixed this with water, salt and flavouring of their choice and cooked this simple stone age bread over the fire.

In our third week we finally managed to get out into the woodlands - we had a beautiful sunny and calm day. We explored the area by going for a little walk and learned about how people used to record their long journeys by making journey sticks. We talked a bit about the trees and plants we found around us and we listened to the birds. Children had time to play and explore the woodlands. Feel free to take the children back to covert woods whenever you like - they really enjoyed it.

Have a good Easter break
