This term Year 1 learned a little bit more about insects, made tree bark rubbings to look at the different textures and built houses for the fairies to visit. Emersy, Robin, Arthur and Leila created a fantastic village together and so did Hallie, Phileas and Olive. Annabel, Jayla and Robyn planted flower bulbs that will hopefully return year after year. In week two we explored what makes us calm and we read the colour monster book together - thinking about our emotions. Nature has a natural calming effect on people.
End of March was the official start of spring - Pepi explained well what equinox meant (equi=equal and nox = night - The night and day are equal lengths).
Josh found centipedes and worms, Elena loved a bug hunt, the children helped to weed the flower beds (Emersyn was a great helper) and they planted sunflower seeds.
We also looked for signs of spring, found caterpillar holes in leaves (particularly nettles and holly) and we had lots of daffodil watercolour paintings and children decorated log slices into bugs and other creations, using hammer and nails.
At the end we thought about one thing that we are grateful for. Have a lovely Easter break everyone.
