3LC visited Tankerton Beach today as a way to finish off our Stone Age History topic.
Before lunch, we did two activities:
The first activity was rebuilding Scara Brae or Stonehenge out of rocks that we found on the beach. We really liked this even though it was hard. Our second activity was scouring the beach for specific items, just like Mary Anning used to do. Using a clipboard and sheet, we tallied everything we saw. We didn’t find many fossils but we did discover lots of flint and shells!
We then had a relaxing picnic on the beach and even squeezed in a game of sleeping lions.
After lunch, we had two more activities. The first was creating rock sculptures of animals that would have been hunted in the Stone Age. We had great examples of cattle, mammoths and deer! Our last activity was making patterns or towers out of natural resources just like Andy Goldsworthy. This was also really tricky.
We had a brilliant day and wish we could go again!
