We started off with the game 'you are only safe if...' to learn more about the trees and plants in our area. It was hot and sunny this week and more importantly not stormy or rainy so we could go ahead and make our fires. We read the book 'Fiery Fox' to learn about how we light fires safely and what could happen if fires spread in woodlands. The children learned about the fire triangle - heat, fuel and oxygen.

Year 2 made popcorn over the campfire, trying to get the right amount of oil, popcorn and heat. Some children had a go at using the fire strikers and once again - perseverance was necessary as it is not an easy task to light the cotton wool with flint and steel. The pride on the children's faces was, however, even bigger when they succeeded (sometimes with a little support).
