This term was very short but we had a couple of exciting events happening. One session was our first fire! The children learned to stay safe, have water and adults nearby and they learned how to get close to the fire in the respect position. We toasted marshmallows over the fire and ate them with biscuits. Yum. Some children tried out the fire strikers and managed to get sparks.
Ash class got to look at a dead slow worm and saw how nature was turning it back into soil. The children (particularly, Lina, Alvin, Teresa, Norrie and Axel) helped to plant lots of vegetables like beans, lettuce and courgettes.
We looked at bugs and worms, learned that the fat part is called a saddle and that it only an adult worm when they have a saddle. Isla made brilliant mud-bugs, Imogen created her own natural paint brush and paint and Henry found a newt! The children enjoyed making the clay snails and Teddy brought his big bug book for us to find insects. It was fantastic to welcome so many adults to our Forest School join-in session - thank you for taking the time to see our area and what we are up to.
