We had some very excited Year 1 children going to the woodlands for the first time (many rounds of 'The wheels on the bus' were enjoyed by Mr Taylor!). Luckily the weather was on our side - no storm but the sun was shining for us.
We hopped on the minibus and walked up to the clearing in Covert Woods. We talked about rules in the woodlands, listened to the noises around us and explored natural items that we could find on the floor around us.
The blindfold game was a challenge - great communication and trust was needed for the children to lead and to find the right tree that they had felt with their hands but without their eye sight. Some children like Ava, Harriet and Pepi enjoyed it so much, they asked to play again later on.
Particularly Willow class knew the story of 'Where the Wild things are' very well and they all joined in with reading the story. The challenge was to build something for the Wild Things- some food, shelter, footprints, wild things etc. Please look at the photos to see how much fun they have had and what they came up with. What a great start to our woodland journey.
