This term we talked about what makes us happy, how outside makes us feel and what we are grateful for.
The children learned about square lashings, tying sticks together to create frames, triangles, mobiles....
Week 2 was all about cooking - fire rules, finding sticks, making a fire, making bread dough, cooking it over the fire, staying safe, being patient and enjoying it. Year 5 really helped out this term moving some of the bark chip that had been cut up for us - making our area less muddy and helping the trees to grow.
The children learned how to find dry wood, make a small fire and boil water in a kelly kettle to enjoy hot squash and hot chocolates on cold days. The children learned some bird names and facts (ask them what they remember) and they used knives, mallets and bill hooks to create birds as well as making orange bird feeders with seeds.
We are creating a fairy area in the Forest School and we got knives, saws, laplanders, drills, nails and hammers out to get busy. Some of the people and furniture went home and some is nearly ready to be played with here. Watch this space...
Have a happy half term and enjoy nature,
