Year 1 have continued to explore plants and nature this term. Within their art lessons pupils have been painting trees. They started by drawing a simple trunk and branches while carefully observing a photograph of a tree. Pupils were asked to try and keep their pencil on the A3 paper (as best they could) to make a continuous line while observing the photo. They then added metallic wax crayon to their lines. The next step was to give the impression of an abundance of summer leaves. Pupils added shapes of their chose to represent the leaves using oil pastel.
In the following lesson, pupils painted. They experimented with paint mixing, creating a variety of browns and greens, before painting their tree. They tried different painting techniques – dabbing, creating swirls and using sponges. Pupils were given freedom to creatively mix their colours and use the techniques as they wished. The paint resisted the wax crayon and oil pastel (drawn the previous week), thus showing through the paint.
I love these – well done Year 1!
