Have a look at all the fabulous learning that has been happening in Year 2 in our outdoor area.
Children solved and wrote their own nature riddles, they made bird feeders, used the Merlin APP to identify birds, re-planted sunflowers and picked strawberries.
In our second session we explored spider facts, their life cycles, made spider web prints, some chose to make spiders out of clay and match sticks and went on a spider hunt.
Please see the separate post about our trip to the woods.
The Willow has been growing well (despite the lack of rain) and we used the plant to create hoops, rings, bouquets and all sorts of imaginative items. Children remembered some of the properties and why we chose willow for this craft. They showed how they can use secateurs safely. It was far too hot for a fire and not safe to light anything. We had soe ice play out instead.
We also tried our new cyanotype sun print paper out - this worked well in the bright sunshine. Children added letters and natural materials to the paper and the chemicals changed the colour of the paper where it was exposed to sunlight.
Finally, we could make a fire in week 5 - and children helped to make some popcorn - sweet and salty were equally popular.
In our last week, we thought about habitats - and what animals need to live. We looked around our area to see what had provided for animals already and what we could improve.
Children improved the bug hotel, built nests, created a log pile, made a hedgehog home and improved the stag beetle habitat. Well done for looking after nature.
Enjoy the summer holiday break and tell me about any nature discovers that you make.
