Welcome to the summer Term Year R-

In week one, for once we had some rain in the water butts as a result of the storms. We went on a bear hunt in our outdoor area and found the bear hiding in the cave. Children learned how to build dens and made some of their own footprints.

We read the book 'The mole who knew it was none of his business' - which is funny and also teaches about animals and their poo. This is one of the ways of tracking animals, looking at the size of the poo and seeing what can be found inside (without touching it obviously) .Children made their own quite realistic poo from flour, soil and water and they learned about the shapes and sizes belonging to different animals.

We were very lucky and found a stag beetle in Forest School - they are protected and we try and help them by burying dead wood into the ground which the larvae eat for up to 7 years!! What else can you find out about Stag Beetles??

Year R learned how to use a peeler and they peeled carrots - now you can ask them to help at home with the cooking. Elm class brought up their butterflies and we got to watch them being released into the wild which was fascinating.

Enjoy your summer break and I will see you all in Year 1 .
