Welcome to the summer term Year 1.

Here you can see some of the fun and learning that year 1 have been up to. We learned how to tie the timber hitch - children then used saws to cut their own logs and tied string to it with the timber hitch and turned the logs into pets. We had sharks, rabbits, dogs, cats and many more.

We have to adjust a little bit to the weather in Forest School (climate change comes to mind here!) and on the extremely hot days it was not safe to make a fire. However in our last sessions we managed to remember the fire triangle, lit a fire, cooked delicious popcorn and practised our fire striker skills.

Year 1 helped out in Forest School, moving our freshly made soil, moving bark chip, planting more vegetables and flowers and we got rewarded by picking our cucumbers, raspberries, strawberries and tomatoes!

Year 1 was very lucky - they used their eagle eyesight to spot a stag beetle on site. We are very lucky to see them occasionally and we try and look after them by burying old wood into the ground - as that is what they eat as larvae for around 7 years!! What else can you find out about Stag beetles? If you find any, you can report them on the internet on the PTES website.

We also explored how to make music in our outdoor area - well, it was like a battle of the bands .We had dancers, musicians, singers, children making their own instruments, great rhythm and most of all - a lot of fun. Enjoy the summer break and see you in Year 2!
