Have a look at the fabulous learning that Year 3 have been up to in our outdoor area.

We looked at the Timber Hitch knot and children learned this well - children could use this to tie up the hammock or to make a lead for their wooden animals.

Hammers and nails were out for children to use their imagination - we had some brilliant animals and creations. Some children made butterflies from sticks and wool. The first session was very wet - rain that we desperately need for nature.

Year 3 has been learning about volcanoes and rocks and they went on a rock hunt, dug them up, washed them and tried to identify them. There was even some trading going on. We also built a volcano in our digging area and let it explode together. Children made some cyanotype sun prints, using special paper that had been dipped into chemicals. They used natural materials that would cast a shadow onto the paper and then washed the paper off at the end.

Our polytunnel was giving off the first cucumbers and tomatoes and pupils loved to pick blackberries. They remembered well to ask an adult before eating anything according to our no pick, no lick rule.

During our last session, children used the new metal letters and hammers in order to create their own personalised log slices. We also tried the new electric drill out. We also looked at different soil structures and flowcharts to see what the soil was made of.

I hope you all have a great summer break and tell me about any nature discoveries that you make.
