In term 3, Year 6 designed and made sculptures depicting the human figure in motion. To begin the project, pupils explored the proportions of the human figure and drew from wooden mannequins. They then sketched from movement on film (running, dance, skipping etc).

As a class, we studied the artists Niki De Saint Phalle, Alberto Giacometti and Elisabeth Frink. Each pupil then chose the work of one of the artists to inspire their own design/s for a sculpture.

Pupils designed and made their armatures (structures) from wood and wire. They used aluminium foil (and masking tape) to create the form and curves of the body before carefully covering them in a layer of modroc; a clay base was created to keep the figure standing.

These are brilliant. Well done year 6.
