The sun was shining for our woodland trips. We listened to sounds in the woodlands, remembered the boundaries and rules and even saw a group of horse riders come by.

Year 3 is learning about the Stone Age and they had watched a video about how people used to create journey sticks on their long trips to remind them of what had happened and what they had seen. They all found a stick, remembered their knots and we set off on our little walk. Some found pine needles and pine cones to remind them of the types of trees that we passed, beech nut shells and leaves, broken off branches to remind us of the recent storms, moss, bark, blue string for the blue sky, red bark for a ladybird, some clay mud and much more. This developed their fine motor skills, close observational skills, communication as we shared what we had found and what it reminded us of and their nature connection obviously, to name but a few.

After our walk, we looked at how stone age people left messages on the ground and they created their own messages whilst exploring the woodlands.
