Last week, Year R practised their observational skills when drawing from Playmobil people. They were asked to look carefully at the object as they drew and to think about breaking their drawing into larger shapes as a starting point (circles, rectangles, triangles etc). They learnt about how to use colour pencils neatly and to use the colours that they saw within the figure.
Drawing is an important skill for young children as it helps develop their fine motor skills (hands, wrists, and fingers); it encourages visual analysis; it helps their concentration and their ability to carefully observation; it improves their hand-eye coordination; it increases their confidence and teaches creative problem solving. Art is a very important subject!
